Going to court tomorrow for the first time...(eviction)

Is there anything I need to bring with me? I was told the hearings are very short; I will be asked if the tenant has paid rent, the judge asks the tenant if my claims are true. If tenant says yes then it is ruled, if not then the tenant has to provide proof of payment.

In other’s experiences has it been that straight forward?

Hi jmtmaster,I have found the more you can bring the better prepared you are.As far as documentation on the payment of rent just anything you have as far as them renting.I had to take tenants to court for eviction and it really wasnt that big of deal. The tenants might not even show up.Mine didn’t!I hope this helps.Michele

Well gmtmaster what happened when you went to court?I hope everything went your way! Michele

if they don’t show up then you automatically win, they usually have ten days (michigan) to get out or pay and if they still dont you go back to the courthouse and get a writ–hire your process server and they get them out, physically if need be. in two yrs. i have never had to get a writ–they leave on, of course the tenth day.

good luck–wendy

What happened???/
