Forwarding Time Expired

Does anyone know a good way to find the new address for an owner who has moved and the post office returns your letter with “Forwarding Time Expired”?

The tax bill has to go somewhere…check the tax records.

Actually, I am mailing to the tax address when I get them returned. I guess in my area, they aren’t very timely in keeping them up to date.

Unless they joined the foreign legion, there is a paper trail of some kind to find this person. In some states it’s the law to notify the MVA/ DMV when you move because it’s usually what the police are tapped into. When taxes aren’t paid or there is some other issue regarding the property, this is the first place the revenue and compliance departments go. A good skip tracer might be able to crack this code, if not, the best thing to do is tape a letter to the front door in a weather-proof envelop/plastic bag, etc. and move on to the next property. Maybe in a few years (or tomorrow) they’ll come back or their heirs will check out what they’ve just acquired.

i agree with previous post. If its vacant and looks like it has been that way for a while, i would bet its probate. I would ask the neighbors first, then deadleads.com skip trace service (or equivalent), also, if the owner passed away in the same county, you can always look up the name in the probate records. If you find him or her in probate records, there will be an attorney contact or someone else (executor) you can contact. good luck

Do you guys think that MVA/DMV would release the information about the new address?

What about the post office? They know the forwarding address before it expires. I can’t imagine there would be a way to find out from them, but it would be nice if there was.

As a matter of fact I asked about it at the post office 2 weeks ago, and was told that the Post Office doesn’t provide this service anymore. Makes no sence to me, shouldn’t this info be public?..
