Fire extenguishers in low income rentals

Do you guys put fire extenguishers in your low income rentals?

I think it’s a good idea, but I can also see it being a potential huge problem if the tenant gets pissed because you try to collect your late rent OR they’re getting evicted…and they decide to squirt it’s contents everywhere. =)

Yes, I put fire extinguishers in ALL of my rentals. They do get used occassionally on fires, particularly grease fires. Angry tenants also discharge them sometimes before they abandon the property. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt!

Do you put them in a certain spot?

E.G.
Under the sink
Side of the kitchen
By the back door
In a closet
In the living room
By the front door
Etc?

Thanks!

we require there is a small one in the kitchen amd smoke detectors work

City code requires one in all rentals where mine are located. We use CO2 models that don’t damage anything when discharged, and only cost about $25 to refill.

Ours are in the kitchen, either under the sink or hanging on a wall.

We have one in our apartment building’s hallway. The residents also have their own in their apartments. I’ll have to check these new houses we’re buying to see if there are any extinguishers in there. Don’t forget carbon monoxide detectors in rentals that have gas utilities.

I put the extinguishers right beside the door that leads out of the kitchen, provided that the stove isn’t next to that door. The idea is that the tenants are not fire fighters. If they attempt to fight the fire, I want them to be at the exit from the kitchen so that they can escape if a grease fire grows too large. I would not put them in cabinets or anywhere else that is out of sight. Remember the old saying “out of sight, out of mind”.

My friend had the idea to put extinguishers in the common areas of his property. 3 days later they were all gone. I agree, by the door of the kitchen is a good place, but high enough so young children wont grab them when mom isnt looking.

we useually hang it in the pantry or under the sink
