I am creating a real estate company to buy and sell property. I am located in Nevada and I wanted to know when I apply for my EIN for this company should I put my information under priciple officer and put my SSN or someone elses? Wouldn’t putting my info defeat the purpose of Nevada not communicating with the IRS the owners info? Thanks in advance. ???
putting someone else’s would probably be illegal.
you’re discovering that true anonymity is difficult to achieve these days. banks, title companies, creditors, virtually everyone shares information even if NV doesn’t.
The form you will be filling out is SS-4, an IRS form not a state of Nevada form. You send this form to the IRS, our fill out an online application and submit it to the IRS.
Definitely put your own name and SSN in the appropriate blanks for the principle officer. Your name and SSN will be confirmed with the Social Security Administration before your application can be approved.
Thanks. Thats what I thought. I have several other companies and I am registered as the principal with the IRS. There are some speakers out there giving information that you don’t have to provide that information, but I didn’t think that sounded right. Thanks again.
Good replies. One other issue: Anonymity is less valuable for asset protection than advertised…the idea that creditors will leave you alone if you are “hidden” is grossly overblown. In any event, trying to avoid the IRS is not a very good idea. Reducing taxes, being legally & ethically aggressive is great…on the other hand, hiding from the Service is not a good idea.
