ebay

Has anyone been successful in buying real estate cheap on ebay? Is this fool’s gold?

I’ve never tried. I had some other investors tell me about the expensive fees charged by e-bay. From what I understand there are more real estate transactions conducted off of ebay than on, that were originally listed on the site. It seems as though people see a property they like, but end up making deals with the owner outside of the e-bay listing. Effectively, the site is used to find buyers more so than to sell properties through the e-bay system.

Anyone have another point of view on this?

I can only say what I see locally.

Land listed on ebay in my area is junk, and is being misrepresented. Things like “local” scenery is actually 60-100 miles away and no mention is made of the process to obtain building permits (often not possible) or the complete lack of water.

Or else is is quite good land, but being offered at a starting price that is considerably higher than you could buy it for if you went to a local agent.

Still, I cruise through the listings on ebay every so often just in case.

I see the occassional listing out of my area that looks interesting. Whether or not it would look interesting to anyone who lived close to it, I can’t say. I don’t buy out of my area, so I’ve never done any research on any of those properties.

If you are thinking of buying off ebay, do your due diligence.

yeah i have found the same thing i have been looking for a site where i can do the whole transaction basically online at a somewhat fare price. hell in this market i would be willing to give some of my commission away, but i think i have found a site that i dont really have to do that so that makes me sleep easy at night. i have found that there are two sites williams and williams online real estate auctions, but you cant do the transaction online. i have learned through someone on this site that the best place to go is bideup.com . i think that may be the best direction for you to go

I don’t like the idea of buying property online. You HAVE to physically see the place. You have make sure what you’re getting into. If I want to sell a property myself, ebay would not be my first choice. You can get the word out. Otherwise you can go with an agent. With that in mind, if a property is on ebay, I feel there’s something to hide. If you’re looking to do the whole transaction without leaving your couch, you’re gonna lose your shirt…and maybe your couch!!! Just my opinion…

but there are so many ways to protect yourself now. i mean how can it not atleast be acknowledged that soon houses will not be sold like they are it will all be done online… maybe we should just stop fighting it

I have seen a few good deals on property in the Seattle area on Ebay. I have also heard both good and bad stories about buying real estate on their site.

It should go without saying, but you really need to do your research. As someone else mentioned the auction listings are often over exaggerated on the details. I wouldn’t buy anything without doing a good amount of research first.

Junk properties represented by thieves. Dont be fooled by positive feedback scores. Act licke you never stumbled across it and save yourself the headache and money. You have been warned!
