This story is from years ago but I always laugh when I think about it. My buddy Larry rented an apartment in a complex that was going thru some kind of transition. It may have been a foreclosure or in escrow I don’t reember. Anyway, Larry had an upstairs unit and he liked to drink. Water beds and drunks not allowed. He came home after a hard night of partying one Saturday night and decided to fill up his water bed. Of course these things can take 5 hrs to fill. By that time Larry was fast asleep in a drunken stuper. How rude of the tenant below him to come pounding on the door saying water was gushing into his unit. Well Larry was not one to fret over life’s little problems. The next morning he packs up his stuff and moves into another unit that was high and dry. Larry lived rent free for quite a while. And of course Larry didnt fess up the the damage in the apartment with the water damage. What a guy.
Randoskie,
Good story. It reminded me of my college days when I was invited by some football players to their “Eviction Party”.
They had had various problems with loud parties until they were given an eviction notice. They were moving out the next morning after the big eviction party and hoping for some deposit money back.
During the party one football player was rough housing around and pushed his roommate through the kitchen wall. He fell into the hallway. This made a big person-sized hole in the drywall, like in a cartoon.
The tenants then both got busy and wallpapered up both sides of the wall where the hole was.
The fix looked great, perfectly nice wall. Party guests were told to not touch it.
A future tenant or the landlord would be getting a shock if they happened to lean against it. They would fall right through the wall. I never heard if they got their deposit back.
