Does it help to join local service organizations?

Hi, all. Does it help for us to join local service organizations such as the local Chamber of Commerce or the local Better Business Bureau? I looked at the website for my local Chamber of Commerce and it doesn’t look like there are many local businesses who are members.

Does this networking and reputation enhance our businesses as real estate investors? I was wondering if the this might dig up leads for houses or perhaps private money. Giving serious thought to it but wondering if this is really worth it. Here in Aiken, SC, it only costs $244/year plus a one-time application fee of $35. TIA.

It can… especially if you can network a little…

Depending on your type of work as an investor it might help. For instance, if you are buying homes at wholesale… it might be something that you can add that you are in the BBB…

I wouldn’t know if being a member of the chamber of commerce would help with getting permits done… but if they are in the same building…

Thanks for the input. The general consensus is it can’t hurt so I’ll be joining the Aiken and Augusta Chambers of Commerces.

Here is the deal with the chamber. If you are going to just join, don’t bother. If you are going to go to every chamber function you can, it will pay off, but it will take some time. Network Network Network. Join, or start a mini networking group.

Good point, Jason. Membership without participation is worthless. I have to keep the magic word, “networking”, in mind.
