Deceptive Advertising on Craig's List

I have started putting some rental units on Craig’s List in my town under Apts./Housing for rent.

The site in buried in “For Rent! You can own this Wonderful Home” type of ads. They start out looking like rental ads, but really they are sales ads. Why not put these under “Real Estate For Sale”?

These ads are very deceptive…Today I noticed “Convenient location, a short walk to the train”…here, that means by the stockyards where you could catch a freight maybe if you run fast enough…

There was also “Two bedroom, near the freeway.” The nearest freeway is 3 hours away. That’s some on-ramp…

The point of this is that these garbage shot-gun ads bury legitimate rental ads, like mine. They are so deceptive that other readers are putting “scam alert” ads on the site.

I am disgusted by wading through the deceptive ads. They all refer the reader to a website or 800-number. The same pictures will be featured under different addresses. This is an abuse of the free website. I don’t believe readers are manipulated as easily as that.

I, for one, am tired of that kind of bogus advertising. I would never respond to a known lie. Surely other readers feel the same.

Flag them.

Mr. Investor,

How do you flag a deceptive ad?

Furnishedowner

Look in the upper right hand corner where it says please flag with care. There will be 4 links pick which one fits the reason why you want to flag.

Thats one of the reason I don’t like Craigslist in my town. It is realtor and investor haven. I do get some calls on my properties for sale though. so it still works.
