Damn collection agency

I just checked my credit report and found a collection on my report. Didn’t hurt my score but I’m sure it will hurt my ability to pull a loan. I wouldn’t be ticked off if I knew I didn’t pay this but I know I did. This is from a Cingular wireless account that I have closed out and paid in full. I paid my last bill and never saw another, now 6+ months after the account was closed I get a hit on my credit report. The sucky thing is that I paid it with an account that I have closed out and might have trouble getting the statements that I used to view online. I have sent the bank an email requesting a copy of my statements from those months to prove my case but I am not sure if those a-holes (Citizens Bank) will even respond. This really ticks me off. Its only $63 ($72 with collection fees) so I might offer to pay for deletion if I get desperate and can’t find another way to get rid of it. I’m looking to buy a house for myself very soon and a few rentals this year so this has to get of my report asap. I never did like Cingular and never did like Citizens Bank. :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead

Rich,
I’ve never had more pleasure than the day i sent proof of account paid off to a collection agency. They mailed me back simply stating, thank you the account has been removed from collection.

If you tell them you cant pay, they will reduce the amount you owe if you pay it off.

You need to appeal that, Rich…make sure that it goes to all three major reporting agencies…each has its own process…once you appeal a posting, the agency that posted it has XX dayst to “put up or shut up”…if they can’t prove otherwise, they MUST remove it…

Keith

I paid this bill so I am going to do what I can to not pay it again. THOSE STUPID ***********S! Someone on Creditboards mentioned he had the same issue. Other people also commented on Cingular’s terrible accounting processes.

Great, I just signed a contract with Cingular…

damn!

I don’t have a contract now at all…free service through full time job. Oh yeah baby that unlimited data service is the best.

The best way is to deal with that hated bank for those statements. Thats likely the only way the credit SOBs will take it off. You better get right on it though while they still might have those records. When you get the statement, call the collection company and be sure you take names and badge numbers and log down what was discussed.

You should know that disputes could get it off your record but they effectively put a hold on your credit until your credit is no longer in dispute status. No one will give you a loan while your credit is disputed

I got a collections ding from a company I never did buisness with. I called them and they agreed to take about half the amount owed as payoff. (about $100) I paid them thinking it was worth it to keep it off mmy credit report. Nothing changed on the report except that now it reads as paid, but that the remainder was charged off. And it is STILL under the collections section. Yay.

It is such a mess getting crap straight on credit reports! It’s not enough to have one…we somehow need three agencies. So basically we all have three different credit scores. If you can get all of the information on each of them to be the same…then it’s a miracle. :bs

One trick a lot of the ‘credit rating cleanup’ agencies recommend is to contest EVERY negative report on your credit file. What usually happens is a few of the negative reports will fall off. No matter what, the reporting agency will be forced to provide documentation proving the debt is legitimate…and sometimes those companies don’t respond…or fail to do so in the allotted amount of time [~30 days]. Plus you’re allowed to put a comment [by you] in your file stating you disagree with the validity of that negative report.

dispute it, get the statements and send them in and focus on more important things; it annoying, but you get past it.
