credit card balances

When trying to improve your credit score is it better to carry a small balance on your credit card or to have a zero balance?

I have a CC that I use for small expenses and then pay off the the balance every month before the due date.

You should have some usage of your credit cards but keep your ‘utilization’ less than 35% of the available credit line. Just because you pay the card in full each month don’t assume that the credit reporting agencies show you with a zero balance. Your payment and the balance reported by your credit card issuer rarely occur on the same date.
