Copper rain gutters--how to preserve them?

I just discovered COPPER rain gutters on my house and had a guy use stripper to get all the layers of paint off. They are gleaming and gorgeous.

Does anyone know how to keep the copper gleaming longer? Any finishes? I know they will weather to old vintage green eventually.

The bad news–now I am worried about theft. Maybe the 3 yard dogs will help.

I got some paint a while back to use on a tile surround that was pink and I changed it to white.I got it at SHerwin Williams,it was some bad stuff that will stick to anything including glass.Sorry I can’t think of the name right off,but I’ll findout in a day or two for ya.

sellnbama,
I’m not looking to paint those gutters again, I’m trying to keep them all coppery and gleaming. I now feel like my 'lil house is a castle…copper gutters!

I was thinking of spraying on PAM or some other coating just to preserve them longer.

I’m sorry I was’nt very clear on the “paint”,I meant it came in a clear also if I’m not mistaken.I know from my autobody experience you could use a urethane clear it sticks to anything also as long as it ahs a ight scratch. You could lightly sand the copper with a 1200grit or lighter and the clear should fill in any scratches they may appear.I would do a test panel first to make sure you like it.

Just a suggestion. We used to do it to frames of motorcycles after polishing them.It may lose a hint of luster, but sure beats the alternative of repolishing every time you turn around.Let me know if you have any questions. :cool

Thank you, sellnbama.

I checked my records 2day,it’s called XIM,but I think it will be a bit too milky if it comes in clear.I would get a cheap urethane auto clear,it’s really clear.Just spray it on lightly and put about 2-3 coats. There maybe a brush on urethane,I’m not sure.Best wishes,Let me know the verdict.

Thanks, sellnbama.

Now I am worrying about the need to replace the 6 metal --non-copper–straps that attach the gutters to the building. They have been stripped of paint so it’s copper to metal. I just learned of “galvanic liquidation” (?) where the metals react and the copper gets destroyed.

Anybody have experience with metals on this site?
