Client "thank you" gift ideas...

The mortgage company that I work for down in FL is considering a few gift ideas as a way of saying TY for doing business with us.

Like most people in sales, we’d like to improve our referral business.

I’m wondering if you have any insights into some decent gift ideas for say around the $20 mark… you know something a little splashy, but that they would hopefully keep around for a little.

We were considering a balloon idea, but since they don’t last too long… we are not that hot on it.

Anyone have any thoughts or have you had good success with an idea in the past?

Appreciate the help… starke

  • A decent bottle of wine
  • Gift cards to local restaurants
  • Gift cards to Home Depot/Lowes/etc.
  • Movie tickets

If you move to, say, new cars, let me know! LOL

I like the idea of the gift card to Homedepot or Lowes… cause then, they’ll keep it for a little and it will remind them of us…

Since a lot of what we do is low margin, we were trying to keep the dollars down, but try for some kind of long-term… a few months type of an effect. Which, makes it tough for a night out on the town.

Another thought was a calendar with all the 911 and emergency number info, but that seems overdone… but, you do keep that around.

Any thoughts if we were to step the budget up to say $40 - $50 for a longer term effect? (the gift card to Lowes would certainly work here)…

Self-inking rubber stamp with their new address, to use for their return address on an envelope. On the top of the stamp, add something like “Enjoy your new home: <your contact information.” Let them know if they run out of ink, just call you for a new stamp - just another touch for you to get a referral and stay in front of the customer, without needing to be salesie.

You can send them one that has a holiday theme to it around Christmas, so they remember your nice gesture when they are sending out Christmas cards.

Of course, you may want this to be an item to accompany a splashier gift, like a bottle of wine.

Turborocket…

This is exactly what I’m referring to. That’s a great idea. It’s something that they are going to keep around, not to mention use, and the idea to call you when they run out of ink is perfect… ;D

I like it, great idea… if the had a clapping emoticon, you’d be receiving my applause.

Glad to help.

By the way, I half-way retract my suggestion of the bottle of wine. Make sure you know your client. They could be a recovering alcoholic and you may never know it. Obviously, wine is not a good idea in that case.

I thought of something else. If during the loan process, you find out some of your client’s hobbies, interests, etc… You can find a magazine that is related to your client’s hobby, and send them a complimentary subscription. There are magazine subscription services out that cater to sales people for closing gifts and the like. You can get a small message printed on the mailing label… something like “Compliments of Joe Doe, ABC Mortgage, 800-555-1234” or whatever message you want. Your client will be reminded of you on a monthly basis when the magazine arrives. Caution, if you have a husband and wife buyer, get two subscriptions.

I like the magazine subscription idea even more. ;D

That’s what I mean about something that could be for anyone, and will last a little while. Something like the “cake of the month club” , but not nearly as cheesy… (or cheesy at all).

I’d like to get away from the wine idea… you drink it, then… it’s a throw away…

At least people like to put on the “image” that they can read… a decent magazine on the table is something that you keep around.

Hmmm… another one hit me… a spice rack, but that might be a little more complicated, and ok, but not the greatest for guys too.
