One of our rental houses is in a nice middle class area. There are a few houses (including ours) that is NOT part of a huge HOA in the surrounding area. One neighbor has a pickup topper/camper sitting in the side yard that is clearly visible from the street and really noticeable from front door of our rental property. We offered to help the neighbor move the topper to the back yard, but they didn’t accept because they were “thinking” about selling it. One option would be to call the city, and have then served a notice as I’m pretty sure that wouldn’t be acceptable in that area. I could be wrong though. However, since we have mentioned it to them at this point, they would surely know we turned them in. Having the camper moved isn’t worth creating an enemy who could make it difficult to rent the house in the future. I don’t know that they would do anything to make our lives difficult, but I’m concerned about the possibility. What are your thoughts?
ask them what they want for it,it might be cheap enough its easier to buy it and throw it away,I recently threw one away that a prior owner left at a house I bought,I can’t imagine that used they are worth very much
Good idea to buy the camper shell if it is cheap enough.
Here we have a clipboard with the phone numbers for the Code Enforcement office. We call in non-moving cars in yards, junk in alleys, yard waste in alleys, improperly-cared for dogs, etc. all the time.
We had one problem neighbor at a rental property, and when her yard got bad we would stop in–“Jenny, we are going to the dump today. Can we help you with any of that stuff in your yard?” We would haul off or move whatever she let us do.
That was the only way to deal with her on-going collecting of couches and non-working appliances in the front yard. Finally we sold the house to get quit of that problem.
I don’t have any problem calling in code violations. Just do it. It is your right to have a nice-looking neighborhood, that is why there is a code.

Yeah, I would call the city too. That’s what they are there for - to assist people like you. Good luck!
Seriously? A camper shell? Is that the only problem with the neighbor’s yard?
Try to get control of your own control issues. Your property ends at the property line.
Buy the thing and remove it, or build a solid fence between the two properties so you can’t see it.
Unless it is a really snobby yuppie neighborhood, a camper shell in the driveway next door isn’t going to bother tenants.
You can call code, but keeping a boat or trailer or camper in the yard is not a code violation in many areas.
I’d call the city also. Don’t tell them your name, and he’ll never know.
I went through a similar thing with a neighbor. He had some commercial property that had junk all over it. I offered to haul it off at no charge for him - old cars that had parts missing and hadn’t run in decades. I figured I’d get some money for junk, just to pay for my time. He wanted me to buy them from him, so I complained to the city and he got billed for someone to show up and take care of it.
