Checking the mortgage balance on a Subject 2

What’s the best way to get information from the mortgage company on the mortgage balance, interest rate, escrow amounts etc. after you have a signed Subject 2 Contract and a signed Authorization to Release form from the seller?

Is it best to just call the mortgage company’s customer service people? If so, what do you say as to not alert them that you are taking over the mortgage?
