chat room virus alert

I just logged onto the REIclub chat room for the first time a minute ago and my Norton Antivirus blocked a worm called “Trojan Horse”. Before going into the chat room on this site, make sure your virus protection is up to date.

Hiyas! TRandle asked me to reply to this post, so that everyone is absolutely clear about this.

I’m the one that put the chat room together for REIClub.com. I’m also one of three owners of the chat network that REIClub.com uses. Our chat network is also the official support network of the chat server software that is used, as well as the official support network for the chat applet REIClub.com uses.

We place a VERY high emphasis on privacy and security of our chat network. I can also let you know that the trojan warning you got is not a trojan. It’s our port scanners and security system that scans each and every person (myself included) when they connect to make sure they’re who they say they are.

We do this to prevent people from using our chat network to launch attacks against other computers on the internet.

There is no way, shape or form that you can actually get a virus by using REIClub.com’s web based chat, it’s just not possible. The only thing you download is the java applet itself, which has been verified AND signed by Thawtes. Outside of that, there is absolutely no way to transfer files back and forth while on the java applet, it’s just not coded in, nor available.
