If a family receives about $13,000 as an annual christmas gift from their parents, can this be used as income? Cash gifts are received every year and the amount has been $13,000 for several years.
Are you showing them on your taxes as income?
There is no income tax on gifts. The giver would pay gift taxes if the total gifts for the year exceed the couple’s exemption.
They are not listed as income on the taxes because the gift is not taxable because it is under the yearly limit (if it were over the limit, the parents giving the gift would have to include in their taxes.
But when applying for a loan can they be used as “income” to qualify for the loan?
Thanks for your help.
