can a notary be a relative?

simple question…i can’t seem to find on google. does it matter if the notary who witnesses a QCD signing is my mother? i hope there’s no conflict in interest…

Yes a notary can be a relative. You can’t notarize your own documents or documents ou are party to.

You can find most state’s notary public manuals online.

Is your mother a notary now? If so, it should have been detailed in her training.

State laws may vary, but generally speaking, as long as the notary is not a principle in the transaction or they do not have a financial interest in the outcome (except for their notary fee), then a relative can act as notary.

As long as what she is notarizing is legitimate and there is no conflict of interest then there should not be a problem.
