If anyone is using Vonage for their business you should consider switching to something else just in case this causes more problems for them. Better to proactively switch than to try and switch last minute when suprised by a ruling even more feirce like one shutting their service off completely.
I don’t think you’ll need to rush, just start taking steps to move away from them. As of now they are only unable to sign up new customers but they can still service exisiting. I’m just warning based on the possibility that you may have trouble down the road. You should be able to port your number to the new service as far as I know. Is it a local # or toll free #?
It’s our business line, and it isn’t local to where we are now - we moved from another state with it. Hoping we can find some way to keep this number. I am glad the judge didn’t do the injunction to stop all service!
i work for a VoIP company. i believe i can obtain “friends and family” discounts for …well frends and family. you guys are my friends and rei family right?
i’ll find out the details and get some information for those interested. perhaps it might be a viable option to replace vonage.
I have vonage and I’m NOT in a hurry to jump ship. Like the article says, workarounds are possible in today’s technological world. Vonage just needs to work on one quickly. I have to see more happen before I leave them.
I’m just trying to keep people aware, many are using them as their main line of communication with sellers…without that they are screwed. I’m just trying to make sure everyone is prepared to move fast if need be.
I read that Vonage has finally agreed that there is no workaround that will allow them to continue providing phone service without using the Verizon patentented technology. I would guess that they are going to be filing BK anyday now to avoid the MASSIVE fine and having to pay Verizon for the use of the technology over the past couple years. Now is the time to dump that stock if anyone has it.
I am using the service myself and is working great. Hope this helps
Nice try but its obvious to me that you are pushing that service as an affiliate not just a regular customer. Your link gave it away. Better luck next time. -Rich
I can write for hours on this topic…they are the worst company I have ever done business with. Horrible phone lines…could not fax out 8 out of 10 times. They took money out of my credit card after I left them and they charged my for a year of service, then doubled my payments because they added another phone line (that I never ordered). It took me getting my lawyers and the BBB to finally get my money back (and a Channel 10 news threat). It was not a lot of money, but rather the point of what they were doing to me so I made it my personal “thing” in life to make sure they don’t do this to others. Glad to see them going down…! enough on that subject…I would rather spend my time on happier thoughts and gaining education in this wonderful forum.
I liked Vonage and had nothing but good experiences with them. We’re rebranding and I was going to print their number on my cards, but will just use the office number just in case they go belly-up.
