I know prices will vary depending on multiple variables, but overall what would you estimate would be a good price for replacing and installing a standard aluminum frame window in a house?

I hate to say it, but from my experience the “bargain” installers give you exactly what you pay for … not much. None of the bargain installers I’ve talked with will do ANYTHING other than very basic install and caulk. So now I do all my own window installs. To be done right I tear off the old trim, internal and external, shim the window in place to ensure roughly 1/4 inch gap around the window, caulk the installation flange (I only use “new installation windows” since I’m usually pulling out poorly installed, low quality “replacement” windows or bottom of the line original “builder’s grade” windows), foam in all and any gaps between the window frame and the window, and finally tape in the window flange with Tyvek tape. Of course, this also includes removing the entire old window and frames as well as repairing any damage to the house frame, sill, sheathing, and siding. I’ve spent as much as a full day installing just 1 window to make sure it was done right. I guarantee that anything that resembles a problem encountered by a bargain installer will be simply filled with caulk.
