Artificial Siding question...

Hey everyone. I am working on my first investment property which has very DIRTY artifical siding. After I have it cleaned, I was curious about changing the color scheme. It isn’t ugly, but I think it will better the curb appeal if I change the scheme to be more subtle than it’s current one. Is it possible and/or recommended to paint fake siding? Thanks.

Hi JMarc85,

When you say fake siding, are you refering to vinyl? or aluminum? or steele? hardy plank? LP? I could go on, anyway how old is the siding?

John

Aluminum, Hardy plank, and cement-asbestos can be primed and painted…I’ve not had a lot of luck with vinyl…I usually powerwash it and leave it.

I have found the use of Emulsa-Bond or EB to be great with chalky siding. Bonds the chalk for a hard first coat. Use with acrylic paint just test how much you add becuse it can make the paint set very fast. The instructions say 1 quart to a gallon but I usually use half of that maybe a few ounces more. http://www.flood.com/Flood/Products/Exterior/PaintAdditives/Emulsa+Bond+Product+Page.htm
