I actually like this show better than Property Ladder…Property Ladder is always just some ditzes in California that are so inept that they can’t finish the project on their own established timeline and the appreciation (caused by the delay) bails their @$$ out of a sling.
I will say that the "Polly Prissypants that was the “project coordinator” on “Flip This House” really belonged on Property Ladder! Who goes to a construction job site (as a ‘worker’) in open-back high heels? Who brings buyers to an active demolition site in the middle to try to sell her in flip-flops? Where’s the common sense? The other folks oh Flip This House are pretty clued in but they got “rolled” by their inspector(s). Here in Louisiana you have to get a termite inspection to transfer property. If you get a clear inspection and find an infestation like they did, there’s huge liability for the inspection company. What a trainwreck!
Flip This House is a great show. I agree that it some parts that are better than Property Ladder, like no stupid people that still make a ton. The only drawback is it’s a big full-service Real Estate company that has 10-50 workers on every site and flips houses in a week most of the time, which isn’t something I think most rehabbers can relate to. Definitely a fun show, though.
I admit that I watch all of those real estate shows, but I keep hoping they’re going to show the reality of it. They showed a guy who was 3x over budget and went twice as long on his timeline, but still come out with 100k profit.
Of course, it happens, but it seems like that’s not the norm.
Good point about the crew coming in and knocking the whole house out in a week. Even if on a smaller scale I could see keeping a 1-3 man ‘handyman’ crew on speed dial and have them take care of all of the work – beyond the demo which is probably the fun part. This could be especially beneficial if you can find a quality, reliable person(s) to do the work. Then you wouldn’t have to spend precious time looking and waiting for the help to show.
