Am looking for options to get into my first investment property (duplex or fourplex preferably). I have solid credit (low 700s) and long-term employment (10 years past job; 1 year current job – no lapse between), but lack the 20-30% downpayment. Spoke with my uncle yesterday and he offered to seek a VA loan with me as a co-borrower/signor. Idea being that he would live in one of the units and rent the other(s). This theoretically gets around the downpayment issue. Problem is he has been self-employed for several years with little/no income. Any chance a bank would consider this type of loan (1 owner unemployed; 1 owner employed)? Thanks.
