2 basic questions

Hello to all, my name is Miles. I am a 24 year old full time student at UNM. I am from California, and my family has done well in real estate in San Diego. I am looking to learn the in’s and out’s of real estate investing, and I am thankful for finding this forum.

I would like your recommendations on reading material to familiarize myself with the process, the financing, the deal, and the sale… Obviously I described a couple thousand books there, but heck, I am a college student… all I do is read anyways. I would rather read one of your personal recommendations, as opposed to recommendations from late night tv, or an affiliate website out to simply make a profit.

Secondly, I would like to obtain hands on experience in this field. What recommendations do you experts have for a 24 year old student with ample free time, to learn this business? Is birddogging a good way to get into the business (if so, please offer resources)? I would love to work as an intern, or an inexpensive/free lackey… somewhere I could learn the business. (Hint Hint to anyone in the Albuquerque area!)

I am sorry to ask such basic questions, as I am positive many of you read similar questions frequently. I attempted to use the search function, to seek the answers, but did not find the answers. Thank you for your time, assistance, and knowledge.

Respectfully,
Miles Beckler

Hi, I am pretty much starting out myself. The first book I would suggest and I have read few already, would be “Think and Grow Rich” by Napolean Hill. After reading this book it is my opinion it should be mandatory reading in high school. After that, you need to think about where you want to start. I have read “Land Trusts” by Bronchick and I have ordered both of Lonnie Scruggs books. You can find these books on creonline.com.

Hope this helps!

Hi Miles, if I were you I would start out by wholesaling property. I’m a college freshman at Anderson U. in SC and that’s what I try to do. You don’t actually have to buy the property, you just get it under contract and assign the contract to an investor.

Hello Miles, My name is Jason, I am a Realtor/investor myself in Los Lunas NM where the market is amazing for investors right now, we are exploding down here. Feel free to contact me and I can show you some great investment opportunities down here big and small.

Thank you all for responding. polishdave, do you have any information that you have read and would recommend about how to get in to wholesaling? Books, websites, etc?

Jbennett, Thanks for the info, and glad to hear there are people finding success in this area. I begin a new semester tomorrow, so when things slow down, I will be in contact.

Further advice/book recommendations are appreciated, and thanks to those who have posted already
