kdh,
Thanks for bumping the thread. All the shows on now are repeats. IMO, The Beach Bartender Babe show was the most entertaining of all nine first season shows, so don’t miss it. She was smart enough to know that she had no idea what she was doing. And hot enough to attract free cuckold labor from her Bar patrons whom didn’t know much more than she did. A condo remodel like she did should only take about two weeks, but she managed to drag it out for about 5 months, which actually worked to her advantage since the market surged during those 5 months, else she would have lost money.
I had not seen this episode (I came in on the middle of the season). You’re right, she didn’t know what she was doing and KNEW it! She spent hours and hours stripping and sanding the kitchen cabinet doors and then her painter absconded with them…when she went to get new doors she found out they could give her new doors for $400. At that rate, she made about $5 an hour on her labor!
I’m not from California but why do they cut sheetrock there with a circular saw??? No wonder I’ve struggled so…I’ve always used a sheetrock knife! I can only imagine what a mess that was!
It is California, so instead of the $300K she hoped to get, she got $340K! I think she would have taken a bath at $300K.

Hi Tony…first off - WELCOME!
Next, please go to the message at the top of every section in the forum that says, "----- READ RULES HERE BEFORE POSTING ----- ", then do that. You’ve made six posts and have already violated the following rules:
Rule #2: “No Duplicate Posts - do not post the same or similar post in more than one place;”
Rule #3: “No Advertising - do not post advertisements, solicitations, or offer your services;”
Rule #6: "No “Contact Me” Posts - do not ask to be contacted by email or phone in your post and do not include your email address or phone number in the body of your post.
Tim Randle and the other Moderators here do a great job. Their goal is to keep the forum as a freeflow of information between investors and not a “foodfight” of advertisements like a lot of the other REI forums are. In their words: "The discussion forums are intended for asking and answering ONLY INFORMATIONAL questions SPECIFICALLY related to real estate investing. "
Thanx in advance for your cooperation!
Keith
You guys are leaving out the best part…at the end of the show they all have this “I knew I could do it attitude” …when you know they should be saying “Whew…I’m glad the market kept going up or I would be broke or worse”
Can somebody fill me in on the results of MBA Momma’s flip on Property Ladder which aired sat. Aug. 13th. Elenora had a 3 bedroom ranch style home in Houston TX. She bought it for $170K put $ 50,900. into it and wanted to list it at $279,000. My TiVO stopped recording at the very end right before the open house. She had a bad water leak and foundation problems to deal with. Let me know what the open house was like and if she was able to sell and at what price. Thanks. Craig.
Craig,
This was a rerun, take a look at page 3 of this thread. There’s a complete discussion…

famous last words?
Anyone else watching this season of Property Ladder? The most recent epsiode featured an El Segundo House that was purchased in Jan. 2006 for 590K. The owners put about 50K, and a lot time, into it in repairs. (plus the 5k a month in holding costs). And it is still unsold! Bhaaahaawwwaaahhaaa! If they got an offer today they would break even at around 710K. It is listed at 738K.
yeah I saw it. When will people learn, when in doubt a three bedroom is best. It is their fault. They should have just put up three more walls and some electrical, and they probably could have gotten way more htan their original sking, too bad though it was nice.
This show should be called “How Not to Rehab a House”. The few episodes of this I have caught, I found myself yelling at the TV. I hope this show discourages the mom-and-pop competitors who flood the market but I have a feeling it encourages them.
Since I don’t watch this often I am wondering if there has ever been someone who finished on schedule and on budget?
<<…I am wondering if there has ever been someone who finished on schedule and on budget?>>
I think that I’ve seen just about every episode…no one ever finishes on-time/on-budget, largely because they set both unrealistically…and Kirsten tells them so – usually she’ll just say, “really?”, or “good luck with that”…
Terrible…just terrible! It makes me laugh though…especially when the “princesses” do rehabs in their ‘Capris pants’ and ‘Barbie sandals’!!

I’m glad we’re finally seeing what it’s like when the property doesn’t appreciate 50k while they’re holding it. Total reality check. And greed seems to be an issue also. If these last people would have listed the property for 50k less, they probably would’ve moved it quickly and still walked with a nice profit for 9 weeks. Not sure how they were marketing it either. FSBO with open houses and prayer?
Has anyone seen the new Flip this House episodes? They’ve switched from the folks in SC to other investors. Two of the episodes have been with some Texans. They managed to find the biggest jackhole in TX. Are we supposed to like him and his team? Seems they spend half their profits on designer sunglasses. In the last episode they were competing with each other on two houses. He immediately starts trying to sabotage the other team but really just screws the contractors. I’m sure he justifies his behavior with his success. If success in RE makes you that type of person, I think I’ll get out now.
Yeah it looks like it’s two brothers and their wives…last week it was the guys against the girls. At one point one of the guys claimed that they flip 20 houses a month…San Antonio area.
Keith
This San Antonio series sucks. Those 2 rehabs did were very small deals, I think they made 20k each. I haven’t seen any other employees of this company which leads me to believe that all of the deals they do are very small.
I want to punch the guy whenever he talks about his stupid shark and whale analogy and gives tip from his infinite wisdom about how things work. These guys weren’t chosen for the TV show because of RE. All you need to be is flamboyant and you can fake the rest.
LOL. Actually on A&E’s website, it says the San Antonio teams does 200 a year and the Atlanta team does 100. I hate San Antonio’s big brother, jacka$$. I actually like the new show, not because they are great at what they do or anything, but because it is entertaining. They make me laugh. Richard and Team trademark is moving to TLC, because A&E didn’t want to up the cash.
Folks, this is TV! Do you really think everything on these shows are exactly as it happened. Its Hollywood, TV - its not realistic - its staged, its scripted. Anyone who thinks they can watch this show and do what they do is crazy. The budgets are always too low and the time frame is always too short.
It’s entertainment!
Sure, right cherdwelth…next you’ll try to tell us that the WWF wrestling is fake!
LOL…
Keith
I don’t believe that all of this is fake. Sure some shots are staged but most is fairly accurate. These shows are not informational in nature but not entirely false. It shows real problems people have and real successes. Some of the numbers might be exaggerated but not by much. It’s ignorant to dismiss the legitimacy of it just because its a TV show.
Never said it was fake.
Its Hollywood, TV - its not realistic - its staged, its scripted.
Sorry for the misunderstanding.
HI Danny! Sometimes written words just don’t come out correctly … mine many times. I think the show is entertaining but a lot of it is scripted and scenes set up (like the stupid pranks, etc.) - and its not shown in real time or in real sequence. They’ll show the house with 1 day to go and everything is not done. Next day, its all staged for the open house. That scripting gives some people the wrong idea. That’s why I said that it’s TV. I’m not saying that the people are not real people or their projects are real. It’s interesting to watch.
I think we agree on that, right?? ??? ;D
Danny - what state are you from?
