Believe it or not, responsible landlords will inspect their own rentals to ensure that things are safe WITHOUT THE GOVERNMENT BEING INVOLVED! All I want the government to do is GET THE HECK OUT OF MY WAY!

Sorry if I missed something, but how exactly are mandatory apartment inspections going to decrease tenant litigation? If a landlord sumbits to the inspections, does that somehow absolve him from liabilities that tenants can currently sue him/her for?
By performing regular inspection minor issues can be addressed and resolved before they become major problems.
I think the specific question is, “If the government is going to be in charge of all facets of my life, does that resolve me of the responsibility/liability?”
I’m thinking not, so the govenment is basically just a ‘pimple on the ass of progress’.

The landlords won’t pay for this the tenants will, they always do.
If there is a fee for the inspections, it will get added to the rents (unless there is rent control).
If there is a large issue, and it causes a huge fine or expense to be levied then the place will be condemened and the tenants need a new place to live. Or the fines could cause the business to be unprofitible which will cause the landlord to sell.
That said, unless there is some large upcry about the conditions, this is a ridiculous legislation to uphold. The tenants will be the ones that pay.

I dont WANT or NEED the government looking out for my welfare, as others said, if you dont take care of your propertys, you wont have them for long. They already take care of me by mandating me to wear a seat belt, if i want to dive through a windshield, thats MY choice, big brother is growing more out of control by the day. :flush
This has absolutely nothing to do with safety, livability, tenant protection, etc, etc, etc. This is revenue generation, plain and simple. If the government inspections had even a tiny bit of legitimacy, you would be able to hold them accountable for their inspection. If the inspection found problems that weren’t there or gave the all clear where there were actual problems, you would be able to sue the inspector/agency for negligence since you paid for a service but did not receive it. Just try that sometime! They should just call it like it is… ITS A TAX trying to hide as something “good for the people”. Typical “feel good” legislation that does nothing but drive away good businesses and drive up the cost to the consumer.
Next thing you know you’ll need a nose inspection before being able to pick it.

Sorry to hear about your loss. I live right across the river from the towers and witnessed the towers come crashing to the ground, and heard the cries of people who couldn’t reach their loved ones that day. Later that day, I saw the same clips on TV that you mentioned. I thought to myself “who are these animals who could celebrate such a tragic event.” These were kids, teenagers, grownups, you name it… all dancing and celebrating in the streets. I wanted to wipe them all out… UNTIL… and hold your breath on this…
UNTIL… I REALIZED AND LEARNED THAT THE CLIP OF PEOPLE CELEBRATING WASN’T LIVE! It had NO relations to 9/11. The media claimed it was a live clip, but it was proved in the coming months that the clip was in fact from a previously recorded video. It was recorded years earlier and the media played it to fuel the anti-arab HATRED that was boiling in everyone’s blood.
I understand that we’re not supposed to put links in out posts, but I ask that you please allow this to stay posted. I’d love to hear any rebuttals after careful review of the following website, or the many documentaries available on google videos relating to the TRUTH behind 9/11:

It’s OK to put links in your posts…you just can’t link to your own stuff or to that of someone that you have financial ties with (boss, partners, etc.). Having said that, the whole 9-11 conspiracy thing is absolute garbage. Anyone with 1/2 a brain would know that it is ridiculous nonsense. I was in the DC area and saw the Pentagon right after it was hit. It was an airplane. Trust me, I’ve seen airplanes and that is what it was…now, those not to be trusted are the media.

Keith, now you’re stretching credibility. You know darn well that the towers collapsed as a result of a controlled explosion caused by the Jews, CIA, and George Bush himself. Anyone that thought they saw an airplane just has a wild imagination. Terrorists, what terrorists? George Bush wasn’t in the twin towers when they collapsed - was he?
