rehabs and hard money lenders

Hello all! My name is Arnita and of course I am new to real estate investing. After studying many books I think it is finally time to dip my hand in the cookie jar.

I will of course need to use a hard money lender and I think I have one lined up. My question is, when you have no funds to use upfront how do you work with contractors to get the work done if the HML dosen’t pay improvements until they have been completed? Are there some contractors who will work with investors who use HML’s? I just need a little clarification on the process of working with contractors to get the work done.
