Insurance For My Rental Properties
«

Hi All,
I hope all of you are doing well in lieu of this COVID-19 pandemic.
Two questions:
1. Can I get my rental properties and personal car insured if I am renting an apartment myself/living with family? Most of the major companies (Allstate, Geico, and State Farm) want you to have a primary residence in order to get the discounts.
2. Also, can I get umbrella coverage without owning a primary residence?
Thanks in advance.

In my experience yes you can, but I am located in Canada so it may be different here.
I do know insurance companies, for whatever reason, prefer that they have your personal home policy as well. Doesn't' make any sense to me but whatever.

Not too sure but I would call to double check since many companies are being more lenient and giving on their offerings due to covid. Also, umbrella policies are super useful for covering multiple properties at once if needed to insure multiple spots that you own!
