Referral Fee/Commission Split Question

Lets say I have a Real Estate License in California. I want to refer clients to a Broker in anohter state such as New York in order to collect a commission split. Do I need a Real Estate License in New York as well for this to be legal? Will having a Real Estate License in California only be sufficient to legally collect any referral fees/commssion splits from another broker in another state in which I am not licensed?

Thanks!

I beleive you only have to have an active license in the state you practice. However, you also need to make sure the person you refer to is open to paying a split and if so, get it in writing of how much.
